Description The deserted and moldy Metropolitan Hotel in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Once a majestic seaside resort it is now a very eerie condemned building. Originally built of wood in the 1880's it was redone in concrete around 1915-1920 and is thought to be the first concrete structure in Asbury Park. It became a favorite of Jewish people in the 1920's as the hotel restaurant featured kosher food and up until the early 1900's Jews were not allowed to stay in hotels. This photograph was taken at the entrance to a courtyard which is now fenced off. I remember getting goosebumps as I shot it as I suddenly became aware of a strong odor coming from the hotel. The Metropolitan is still majestic in it's own way but it's the closest thing to a truly haunted feeling place that I have ever experienced...
